The Arthur Butler Aviation Museum (ABAM) committee was formed in 2022 to arrange the first air rally in Tooraweenah since 2008.
ABAM are actively involved in the care, maintenance and management of the airfield and buildings, they arrange fly-ins and retain custodianship of the museum collection.
The Arthur Butler Memorial Aerodrome is located near the southern foothills of the Warrumbungle Range on the western edge of Tooraweenah in Gilgandra Shire, New South Wales, Australia. The Wiradjuri, Kamilaroi and Weilwan peoples are the traditional owners of the land.
The Arthur Butler Aviation Museum (ABAM) propose to increase awareness of the Arthur Butler Memorial Aerodrome as well as seeking to enhance the economic growth of the greater Tooraweenah village by providing :
Critical infrastructure services to the site, including water and electricity
New amenities building with toilets, showers and camp kitchen with appropriate on-site waste treatment
New shed for workshop and grounds maintenance
New hanger to house museum collection and future donations of aviation memorabilia
Pathway for pedestrians into Tooraweenah village, leading onward to the GK Rohr Warrumbungle Viewing Platform
The proposal will encourage increased aerodrome usage by consolidation and expanding the potential for visiting light aircraft, overnight camping and other aviation events.
A Master Plan was devised in conjunction with Rose Kubatov and Steven Beattier (Beatov Design) to provide a starting point for discussions about the exploration and development of both short and long term improvements to the site and how they relate to Tooraweenah Village and Gilgandra Shire
